On the 21 August we went to our Athletics Carnival. It was at Campbell Oval. We travelled by bus. When we got to Campbell Oval we had to race. First it was the junior boys’ 100m race. Daniel came 1st and Bobi came 2nd. Then it was the junior girls’ 100m race. Tianna came 1st. After that it was the 200m juniors’ race and Mutu came 1st. After a while we had recess. After recess we had to run the 800m race. The students who ran in this race had to sprint around the oval 2 times. Then it was lunch. We only had lunch for 20 minutes and then it was time for captain ball and tunnel ball. The students in the Fraser House won both of these games. When all the events were finished we got back inside the bus and went back to school. We had a wonderful time because everyone payed attention to the teachers and the canteen ladies.

Today we had a cricket clinic at our school. The cricket player’s name was Michael Stickman who was originally from New Zealand but now he plays cricket for the NSW Blues. He showed us how to bowl, bat, and field (catch ). He also gave us cricket show bags which contained a packet of Milo, a cricketball, a free membership card for one person and posters and stickers. All the students really enjoyed the cricket activities. The most popular activity was the batting.

Bright Sparks will represent the country of New Zealand at our school Mini Olympics. Over the next few weeks we will be researching information about New Zealand culture and customs. If you are able to assist us with our research, please leave a comment. We would love to hear from some students in New Zealand.

Today our school had our cross country fun run. The ages that raced were the 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 year olds. The students wore blue, yellow, purple and orange bands so that the teachers would know what age race the students had to race in. The students had to run a very long way and when they had finished many of them were puffing and had very red faces. When we finshed racing we had war cries for our house teams, which are Bradman, Newcombe, Fraser and last but not least Freeman. In the war cries Fraser came first!!!!!!!!!!!! and my team, which is Bradman, came second…………. I wasn’t quite happy when I heard that. The judges were Mrs H., Mrs J., Ms K., and Mrs F. When we finished we went up and had lunch.

This year our class has been doing a fitness fun run every week. We do the fun run to improve our health and to prepare for the cross-county which is in 2 weeks. If we raise lots of money for the fun run we can win cool prizes. Some of the prizes to be won are bikes, ipods, racing cars and many many more.
Every Thursday our class goes outside to Area 5 in our school playground to do skipping. We have to count how many skips we do in 1 minute and then write it down. After we do our skipping we sometimes get free time skipping and some students are chosen to teach other students in our class skipping moves like peppers and doubleunder.

On Thursday 22nd October 32 kids went to watch the cricket at the Sydney Cricket Ground. We waited at school for about an hour to get on the bus because it was very late. On the bus I sat getting very bored. When we got to the cricket ground there were lots of other schools and the children in those schools had lots of freckles. When we walked inside the stadium we found some seats to sit in and then we began cheering for the NSW team who were playing against Tasmania. Lots of kids from our school and the other schools were asking for autograghs. Some kids got autograghs all over their bodies. When it was time to go back to the school we packed our bags and went into the bus and went back to school. It was fun day at the cricket.

Twenty-four students, from Stage 2 and Stage 3, represented our school at our school zone ARL Tag Gala Day. For those of you that don’t know, ARL stands for Australian Rugby League. Tag is a modified game played by many children and adults, where no tackling is involved. All students must wear a velcro belt around their waist with two cloth tags attached to either side. The defending team must pull a tag from the waist of the attacking team, preventing them from scoring a try. Our school performed extremely well. The junior team won 3 games out of 4 and the other game was a draw. The seniors won 1 game out of 4 but all games were extremely close in score. All students should be commended for their great sports-personship behaviour and brilliant effort on such a hot day. A special congratulations to Naomi, Kesaia, Joe, Souad, Hafiz, Jason, Shaliyah, and Toka, who all scored tries. A special thanks to Mr R. for his fantastic coaching and Mrs P. for her cheering on the side lines.

The 15th October was the first day of swimming. Before we started swimming the teacher taught us how to swim and told us not to dive in the pool and not to do bombs in the pool. On the first day we had a test and on the last day we only had 10 mintues of free time. My group was called Goldfish2 and my teacher was Mrs Fanggidae. We only went swimming for ten days. When it was a cold day the pool was warm. When it was hot day the pool was cold. Those days were so much fun. I loved those days. I wish I could go swimming every day.
