Abu Dhabi

June 26th, 2008 by vjenkins

On 25 June Bright Sparks were visited by teachers from Abu Dhabi. Mr McGuinness introduced the teachers to our class. They were very surprised at how everyone was working as a group. They asked us questions about the work we were doing. William made a plane for one of the Abu Dhabi guests. They also took photographs of our art and craft projects. Then they left with our principal and

Mr Mc Guinness.

Bright Sparks have been reading and writing procedural texts. Each group chose a craft activity from a selection of art and craft books found in our school library. We then had to find the materials we needed. Once we had all of the materials ready, we began making our craft projects. As we completed each step, we took photos. These photos are going to be used to create digital stories. We are going to upload the photos into MovieMaker and then use Audacity to add our narration and music. Our digital stories will be able to be viewed on our class wiki.

Jolly Bops

June 13th, 2008 by vjenkins

BubbleShare: Share photos - Play some Online Games.

On the 11th June Bright Sparks went to watch Jolly Bops in the hall. The Jolly Bops came to our school to teach us all about Aboriginal science and show us how to do Aboriginal things. They also showed us how to do magic with a flower and how to play the Didgeridoo. There was a grey silvery robot. The robot loved Ms K. They also did an experiment and where they put dry ice in a tin and put the lid on and the kept coming off  the tin. The robot tried to put the lid back on, but it kept flying off. It was a very exiting performance.

Education Week

June 1st, 2008 by vjenkins

On Wednesday 28th May we celebrated Education Week at our school. All of the teachers and students walked intoother classes in the school. We were amazed with the art work in S23Ps class.

In S1R it smelled nice just like chocalate and vanilla. S1S’s classroom was so colourful and they had a reward table in the middle of the classroom. There were guards(student leaders) in all of the classrooms to make sure that the students didn’t touch the things in the classrooms. Most of the time Missy and I took photos. The photos are really cool and interesting and we saw some very interesting stuff. After walking around the classrooms it was time for big lunch. We had our lunch in Area 7. We hope to do it again some other time.

Last Friday, 23rd May, Bright Sparks won the shield award for being the best class at assembly.  When Miss Rhodes announced that S2J was the winning class, every body in S2J started cheering. Mrs J. was very proud of us.

Last Thursday my class went to Toon School. We learnt how to draw a boy or a girl. Then we had to make a face, it looked like a round ball. Then we drew the neck, the body, the feet and hands. Then we learnt how to draw a fish and seaweed. It was the coolest thing ever.

Pyjama Day

April 10th, 2008 by vjenkins

Today was pyjama day at school. To raise money for our school we paid a gold coin so we could wear our pyjamas. Many students were very embarrassed but got used to it after a while and were happy to wear their pjs all day long. I wonder what the next mufti fundraising day will be?

Class Buddies

February 15th, 2008 by vjenkins

[rockyou 102588229]
Bright Sparks met with their Kindergarten buddy class for the first time this year. We helped the Kindergarten students make fluffy Valentine’s Day hearts using cardboard and crepe paper. Our teacher gave us the instructions first and then we had to show and tell our Kindergarten partners what to do and help them with the cutting out and pasting. When the Kindergarten students came into our classroom they looked a little scared but once we got started they were happy and we were all having fun. We will be doing lots of activities with our buddy class throughout the year to help them get used to being at school and to help them make lots of friends.

Chinese New Year

February 11th, 2008 by vjenkins

Last weekend the Chinese and Vietnamese people celebrated their New Year. Large parades were held in many suburbs all over Sydney, including a very big celebration in Chinatown in the city.

This year is the Year of the Rat, which is based upon the Chinese horoscope calendar. To celebrate the new year, dragons made out of silk are carried through the streets to scare away the evil spirits and red money envelopes are given to the children by their family and friends to wish them good luck. Large banquets of food are prepared, including moon cake, especially made for the celebration.

To celebrate the New Year, we made dragons from cardboard and streamers and hung them in our classroom. Hopefully they will keep the bad spirits away and bring us good luck for the rest of the year.
