Last Friday, 23rd May, Bright Sparks won the shield award for being the best class at assembly. When Miss Rhodes announced that S2J was the winning class, every body in S2J started cheering. Mrs J. was very proud of us.

This week Bright Sparks were visited by the C.S.I.R.O. We went to the hall to learn all about simple machines. The science teacher’s name was Jean. In the lesson we used Lego bits & pieces to make some simple machines. We made handles that can spin two wheels at a time. We also made a carousel with lots off pieces. When we turned the carousels some of the little pieces kept falling off. When some of the groups were finished they got to make other types of things with the Lego. Bright Sparks love science with the C.S.I.R.O. Saja said, “This science stuff is the coolest”.

We are creating a wiki page all about simple machines. Click on the link in our blogroll “Bright Sparks Wiki” to find out how much we know about simple machines. The page will be added to every week, so don’t forget to keep coming back to take a look.

Today our school had our cross country fun run. The ages that raced were the 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 year olds. The students wore blue, yellow, purple and orange bands so that the teachers would know what age race the students had to race in. The students had to run a very long way and when they had finished many of them were puffing and had very red faces. When we finshed racing we had war cries for our house teams, which are Bradman, Newcombe, Fraser and last but not least Freeman. In the war cries Fraser came first!!!!!!!!!!!! and my team, which is Bradman, came second…………. I wasn’t quite happy when I heard that. The judges were Mrs H., Mrs J., Ms K., and Mrs F. When we finished we went up and had lunch.

On Tuesday the 13th May Brightsparks began the NAPLAN Tests. NAPLAN stands for National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy. The tests were different than any work that we had done before so it was kind of exciting. We were tested in maths, English, reading and writing. During the test we had to focus and concentrate alot. Many of us felt exhausted when the tests were finished. Everyone was confused and tired. After the tests our teacher gave us some lollies and biscuits. We hope we all get good marks in the tests.

This year our class has been doing a fitness fun run every week. We do the fun run to improve our health and to prepare for the cross-county which is in 2 weeks. If we raise lots of money for the fun run we can win cool prizes. Some of the prizes to be won are bikes, ipods, racing cars and many many more.
Every Thursday our class goes outside to Area 5 in our school playground to do skipping. We have to count how many skips we do in 1 minute and then write it down. After we do our skipping we sometimes get free time skipping and some students are chosen to teach other students in our class skipping moves like peppers and doubleunder.
